YES EPISODE SEVEN. Episode six was the Cheri Dahl performance and finally here I am, me myself, reading for eight minutes straight one of Helen Bach’s greatest moment: “With Your Ears” -a time shifting, generation dwelling story of free spirits from Grandmother to mother to daughter.
It was fun to read, Helen writes with a great deal of energy and the article itself is very clear and extremely well constructed, flipping from one generation of women to the other from hippies to punks and finally to the child who encapsules all of it.
As far as reading, it is pretty long, eight minutes and I had to keep on reminding myself to:
1. Look at the camera.
2. Concentrate on what I was saying so it absolutely made sense to me.
3. Take it slow. Better too slow than too fast, better to stop and think than race through.
So how did I do? Meh. All I can see is the hair in my right nostril and I over read it all the time. I oversold it it where I didn’t need to oversell it, but the fear is if you don’t oversell you undersell and that is deadly. Equally important, I was very worried about enunciation. I wanted it to be very very clear. After it was completed, Helen refused to listen to it but watched it with the voice off. Perhaps it should’ve been called with your eyes.
