Today we begin an attempt to garner Elliott Smith a hit single.
One of the effects of digital recordings is it takes many fewer sales to make the charts than ever and in the dog days of summer you could hit the Hot 100 with 50,000 sales. Given the achievableness of it all, we are gonna try to start a groundswell of interest in fans in buying a song they already own.
The problem is not necessarily in getting 50,000 to buy a song but in getting 50,000 people to buy the song in the same week. So how do we plan to do it? I don't have the slightest idea but, hey, that's no reason not to try.
I am thinking of maybe having a UK arm, where you can get on the charts with 10,000 sales, even less… The #2 spot last week in the UK, Little Mix, sold 40,000 copies so you gotta think…
But right now we are just beginning the trip to try and get Elliott his second hit single.
