The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a building in Ohio and  a monument to the closed off world of rock music.  You cannot ‘win’ if you are not on your knees in front of the 500 voting members.

Who are they?  Well people like Jann Wenner, Rolling Stone magazine editor, Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records and a bunch of legal folks.  Yup just a couple industry ‘related’ people and the rest nothing more that chair fillers for the blow hards.

Fans do get a vote (or so they say) but since there is no true auditing body, who knows if it’s accurate?  This year the tally put makeup legends KISS on the top of the heap.  I’m not surprised but I’m also not overwhelmed with joy- since I have very little respect for the award itself.  Although I will pause to say that the museum in Cleveland is a nifty idea I for those so inclined to look at Elton Johns car keys.  They do a bit of archival work but again– unregulated.

Back to fan fave KISS…  This designation reinforces my theory that the America public is a bit off kilter.  Also, that middle aged has beens with nothing to do at work were the big push on that click and vote process.  But if you give an award with no credibility who really cares who it’s given too?  You cant feel slighted or disturbed by the choice, you simply should not care.

So how did the nominees break down after ‘public vote’?  Well…you tell me if this is accurate representation of the “peoples” opinion.
