I knew it would come, I knew this guy would speak up against some kind of music because he wants to have control of everything,… that's his idea of freedom, a word that comes back at each of his sentence! And I was waiting for this moment to crucify him (to use some religious imagery he loves so much), or just make fun of him.
In an article entitled ‘Rick Santorum declares war on Heavy Metal’, The Tyranny of Tradition is reporting that Santorum declared the following during a fundraising event in Valdosta, Georgia:
‘If you listen to the radio today, many of these brand new, so-called heavy metal music bands like Black Sabbath, Venom, The WASP and Iron Maiden use satanic imagery to corrupt the minds of young people’.
Really, Venom? Santorum knows that many heavy metal bands? And before going further, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden are ‘brand new’ bands? Oh Rick, Black Sabbath was founded in1969 and Iron Maiden in 1975!
I cannot confirm the accuracy of the quote, the rest of the article is quite satirical, but this sounds too hilarious for not noting. And the worst part of it is that, even if it is a total parody, I could completely imagine him saying stuff like this. But is ‘satanic imagery’ all he could come up with? Satanism and heavy metal have been going hand to hand since the beginning of times! Santorum is so late on this as he is on everything.
What can I say? Republican candidates are total morons, Michelle Bachmann also declared that ‘The Lion King soundtrack was potentially toxic to small children because it was written by Elton John, a gay man’ (according to Mother Jones).
How can these people be potential presidential candidates? Please go back to your pre-contraception, pre-medical-assurance, medieval conception of the world and let us listen to Black Sabbath!
