Record Store Quote…

Ruugh Trade is quoted as saying: “Record Store Day was a total success. Some of the stores are already telling me that they doubled last year’s total. Some stores say it has been there best ever day of trading too.”

OK, let’s do it again: record stores are ina great position to bing together young music fans but they won’t do it by hanging up vinyl albums on their walls or once a year festivals.
They need to rethink their business plan from the bottom up. Vinyl is dead. CDs are dead. It is possible streaming will kill off mp3s. Indie record stors need to make themselves one part community hang out for cool kids, one part live venue, one part vendors of mp3s are all parts a difficent type of retail happening.

If they don’t they won’t survive. That’s all.
