Remember these cats? "Conquistador'? That's song …to. this. day. KICKS ASS. I forgot about this band until I read a disturbing piece on the fabulous lead singer Gary Brooker
Apparently he recently fell in his South African hotel room while on tour and is in serious but stable condition from a fractured skull. A freakin fractured skull!!? At age 67 this is pretty scary stuff. Sadder still that it occurred on his birth date, though reportedly it didn't occur due to celebration.
Procol Harum had been on tour in South Africa with fellow British groups 10 CC and the Moody Blues. A trifecta for me!!
The remaining tour dates had to be canceled and the CEO of Big Concerts, said "Our thoughts are with Gary and the band during this difficult time. We are confident that he is receiving the very best medical attention and we wish him a speedy recovery."
What the hell is a Procol Harum anyway? They were called 'progressive rock' most likely for their addition of oddish instruments. Not all heavy metal thunder guitar solo. "Whiter Shade of Pale" was a hit, "Conquistador" was way better and "Power Failure" was my favorite.

Procol Harum are scheduled to open for Yes this summer in North America. It is not known if this injury will change those plans.
