When I walked by one of my favorite nightclubs this last Sunday morning, I saw a crowd of young people gathered at the entrance and on one of the sides… What were they doing in front of the Satellite at 11:30 in the morning? It turned out they were listening to instructions given by a tall guy, and I then noticed the sign ‘Hanson Sold Out’ on the front.
They were preparing themselves to shoot a video for the pop rock band Hanson inside the club, and the tall guy were telling them to dance, even ‘get sweaty’, and then relax, but of course, he told them they could not take any pictures once inside. He added ‘I know you are excited to see them, they are going to play real music’ which surprised me a little, were they going to fake it?
The crowd was mostly made of 20 something young girls, with just a few guys, but it wasn’t a very large crowd at all. The MMMBop band had advertised the shooting by posting the following on their website and Facebook page on Friday:

Who wants to be in a music video? This Sunday, January 6th, we will be filming the music video for the first single off of our new album. The video will be filming in the Hollywood area and will go from approximately 11:00AM to 6:00PM. If you are in the LA area and want to be a part of the video, here is what you need to do:
Step 1: Send an e-mail to event@hanson.net with this information
- A current picture
- Your full name
- Your date of birth
- Height
- Your Hanson.net membership status, Member or Non-Member (Please include Username)
Step 2: Wait for a confirmation e-mail saying you have been cast with further instructions.
Step 3: Confirmation e-mail will include details you will need to know
- Location
- Start time & end time
- Wardrobe suggestions / requirements
Because space is limited, only those people selected by the casting director will be admitted.
Note: Hanson.net members will get preference over non-members, but no spots can be guaranteed.

That was very short notice, but seeing all the requirements (send a picture?) I don’t think I had a chance! Did they recruit the girls based on their good looks and appropriate age and height? Probably, and what about this member preference? It’s an interesting technique, not only they don’t pay their extras for a video but their extras have to pay to be in a video… But I am joking all these young girls were probably extremely excited. By the way, how much is a Hanson fan club membership? $40 a year! But look at all the goodies you have access to beside being in a video!
