“I am going, I am going where rivers of whiskey are flowing…” No NYC dates yet but there will be and of course we get em every st. paddy day- but the Pogues are playing their Greatest Hits show across the States and if you’ve never seen em before you are in for a treat. The Pogues are the greatest Irish rock band of all time. Shane formed them from the ashes of punk and his band the Nipple Erectors. There have been many a break up and make up in the intervening years -and many an intervention (and one drunken performance on SNL) but the Pogues are still around, God bless em.
Shane McGowan might be a mess but he is a mess who can sing, or at least slur, with the best of them and he can write songs that seem to have grown organically from the old sod. The band is as great a trad rock band as you will ever hear and the audience -well, on St. Patrick’s Day, you can just stand around watching em when you’re not dodging the puke!!
