Some of my friends consider me a self-hating Arab because I support Israel.
Despite, quite literally, some of my best friends being Palestinian at certain parts of my life, I do not like Palestinians and I do not like Arab goverments (I have no problem with the people -I am one of course).
The reason is I am Lebanese.
In 1967 King Hussein threw the Palestinians out of Jordan and the Palestinians went to Israel, Syria and Lebanon.
Lebanon, a former French mandte, was an uneasy 60/40 alliance between the Christian majority and the Moslims. It broke out in civil war in 1958 and was saved by the sainted President Fuad Chihab calling in the Marines and ushering a golden age for Lebanon.
It was over once the country got more Palestinians, who had children with other Moslims and made the Moslims a majority.
Also, Lebanon had a weak, mutinous, standing Armed Forces and The Palestinians (the PLO) exploited this to form a country within a country.
I blame the PLO and the Syrians for the Lebanese civil war without which I’d be living in Lebanon listening to… well, listening to Black Eyed Peas knowing me!!
When I hear of Costello and now the Pixies canceling concerts in Israel, I am sickened. There are 70M Arabs, 3M Jews in Israel. Anybody who doesn’t support Israel 100% have no idea what they are asking for. That includes, Declan McManus and Black Francis.
