The first song to be released from Paul Wellers upcoming LP "Sonik Kick" is interestingly techy. The video is nothing more than a birds eye view and other than the distinct vocal, theres no Weller to be heard.
A more produced and layered sound to a man who is more famous for simplistic accompaniment. Aside from a bit of work from his side job The Style Council, Weller was the clean cut new wave artist. As a member of the Jam he pissed off The Clash.. that alone kills me to this day
The beat is fun, the electronic twitter has a fabulous retro sound and best of all? A completely distinct tambourine. There is NOTHING more fun than a tambourine, and there it is in full glory. Laser guns and blips layered over some seriously wonderful drumbeats.
I love this….its old meets new but not in a contrived way. Paul Weller was wise to not use live shots for this video, by doing so we all can feel young and hip, we really needn't see the ravages of time.
