Open Book: An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld

Justin Furstenfeld is every woman's pet cause.  The enablers of the world fall hook line and sinker for the manic depressive "disfigured clown" and the powerful lyrics he pens.  As the front man of the Austin based Blue October, Furstenfeld is a street preacher for mental health  and fathers rights and well- there is always something wrong.

He is angry, he is scared he is fighting he is crying and he never really is content.  This is perfect for the emo rock image that BO has created but it is also the reason they haven't 'broken' yet.  C'mon lets face it we all have a negative Nelly friend and there are only so many times you'll go out for drinks with them til you let the call go to voicemail.  The people can take only so much of the "Hate Me", Into The Ocean" and "Dirt Room" shtick- they need another emotion just to bond that psychotic mess ball. The "Approaching Normal" tour had a fit and energized Justin hip thrusting in his live show while the girls swooned. His "Every Man In America" Tour had a bloated scuffing scruffy Justin that had the women screaming I love you". Crazy huh? You either want to save the guy or fuck him

This being said I am still very much a die hard Blue October fan.  I think Furstenfeld is a genius but I also worry how long he is going to be around.  His weight is the best way to check his mental status.  – it all depends on what he is currently battling.

He embarks now on a tour of spoken word and acoustic and this close up promo shot gives no indication of his mental status. This is the THIRD release of his book package and well – for fucks sake, can we get new material?

BlueOctober.com  announces the tour in the following words:
Blue October frontman Justin Furstenfeld has announced plans for a solo tour dubbed “An Open Book: An Evening With Justin Furstenfeld Of Blue October” to promote the release of the expanded 3rd Edition of his book of lyrics and writings dubbed “Crazy Making” due out April 1, 2013.
The shows will consist of spoken word, rounded off with a question-and-answer session, and will also include an acoustic set of songs never before heard and intimate versions of favorites. The evening will focus on breaking down the walls of artist and audience and will provide fans the most access to Justin ever.

Tickets range about $30 and I cant imagine what sort of self depreciating sob fest this shit is going to be.  Middle aged women dressed in Lands End on the edge of their seats listening to the rants we have heard a thousand times.  They'll all want to save him  I'd rather save the $30. bucks.

In a heartbeat I would go to see Blue October live again, each time and in each mental state he has musically blown me away.  But this self help sob fest is nothing but Depression Anonymous and for fucks sake its getting old.
