Bret MCKenzie's "Man or Muppet" from The Muppets and Sergio Mendes' Rio tune "Real in Rio" are the only two songs nominated for this years Oscar for best song.
And they are both terrible, I mean unlistenable. The Will I Am trac, chirps its way into your consciousness before laying an egg in the center of your consciousness. A sorta of mish mash of sama and dance production values, it is easy to dance to but very difficult to listen to without hard drunks. I didn't see the movie, "Rio" but I bet it does bugger all for the tourist trade.
Nearly as bad, I give it the edge because it made more sense in context, is "Man or Muppet", a creepily weird case of identity crises, as a Muppet raised as a man begins to figure out that he might not be, er human.
Mary J. Blige twittered her disapproval at being snubbed by the Oscars for her "The Living Proof" song off "The Help" soundtrack. Well, the song sucks, one of her long jorneys into womanhood things, but it is a million times better than these two.
