Well not really but according to Live Nation the concerts during the London Olympics nearly got squashed because of the neighbors surrounding Hyde Park.
The Westminster Council reportedly intent on cutting the decibel levels to placate the park’s wealthy neighbours, . By cutting back on the decible levels, many acts simply could not perform, or so they say.
Madonna, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen and Drake were all in jeopardy until Live Nation saved the day and got the request revoked. Let the noise resume.
Live Nation is not paid to coordinate this but are certainly cashing in on appearing to be musical superheroes. In a way they are. Their muscle being used to change the mindset and get the shows back on track. These shows will have great financial benefit to London, although the shows are free- that is abou it, you’ll be paying for anything but the pleasure of hearing.
Operation officer, John Probyn, said Westminster’s decision not to cut the sound levels was “good news for the thousands of Londoners and visitors from overseas.”
It also means the 18 Olympics concerts – including 15 free events, the opening and closing ceremonies and the torch relay – can also go ahead.
However, victory appears to have come at a cost, as next year the maximum number of concerts is being reduced from 13 to nine. That makes no sense whatsoever. As if you can only disturb neighborly peace X number of times in a calendar year? Hmm, something off there.
There will almost certainly be close monitoring of the noise coming from the park during the concerts.
Last year the 11 concerts put on by Live Nation in Hyde Park resulted in 24 serious breaches of the 75-decibel limit, according to measurements taken in nearby Park Lane
