OFF!: FYF Fest on Saturday September 3rd, 2011

I was on the side of the stage during OFF! performance at the FYF fest, I was escaping the mosh pit since I had swallowed enough dust after Ty Segall, but it did not stop me to appreciate their set of screamed rage and offensive songs like ‘Poison City’, ‘Now I’m Pissed’, ‘Killing away’, ‘Full of shit’, ‘Sexy capitalists’, ‘Fuck people’ (among others), whose lyrics were furiously spit up by Keith Morris.

As always Morris, wearing a No Age t-shirt (who does not remember the black Flag + No Age = No Flag concert this summer?), was talkative, remembering his wild days at the Hong Kong café in the close-by Chinatown, giving us his ‘lecture’ about civil good sense and immigration, ‘It’s a giant party, people should be able to go wherever the fuck they want to go’, and having his homage to his late close friend Jeffrey Lee Pierce by performing the song named after him.

The veins of his neck reading to burst, showing only the white of his eyes, he was gesticulating and tossing off his short songs backed up by his band consisting of guitarist Dmitri Coats, bassist Steven McDonald and Mario Rubalcaba.

As I was noticing a few OFF! caps worn by young people, Morris addressed to Trash Talk’s frontman Lee Spielman who was among the crowd, ‘Nobody wants your autograph? Nobody wants my autograph either!’
