‘Void You Out’ is the first single from OFF!’s upcoming album, entitled ‘Wasted Years’ and Rolling Stone is saying that the band is meaner and nastier than ever, really? Have you been listening carefully Rolling Stone? They have always sounded that mean to me, they have always sounded that nasty with in-your-face Keith Morris’ aggressive vocals,… you can almost visualize his bursting veins in his neck. Seriously, this track may be as fast as it is empowering, and raw, and short, but they have done it before, it’s OFF! after all! They are this super punk group made of Dimitri Coats of Burning Brides, Steven Shane McDonald of Redd Kross, Mario Rubalcaba of Earthless and of course Keith Morris of Black Flag and Circle Jerks. They are enraged, they want to crush everyone against the wall and disintegrate the world, your neurons included, but sometimes you need a little bit of OFF! in your world. It may sound like some good all-fashioned hardcore, but damn it’s efficient, and Greg Ginn should feel sorry because they sound like the true inheritors of Back Flag – plus they have the Raymond Pettibon’s artwork, so there is no doubt about it.
According to Rolling Stone, Morris said that the song ‘pulls its anger from misleading historical revisionism’… ‘Who was here first? A bunch of uptight, always-right Caucasians with their heads buried up each other’s asses, trying to tell the rest of us how North American history went down and is going to be changed because of their intelligence or lack thereof. Thus: ‘Void You Out!’’ I should definitively ask him for more details about this, next time I see him hanging out at the Silver Lake Farmers market.
