Novos Dae: Like a Tootise Roll In A Lollipop by Helen Bach
I have a job, a rather unglamorous job in a swanky euro company that’s pretty froofrrooo so when you’re scampering through the joint on a Friday and bang into a guy in a Strokes t-shirt.. ya pretty much freeze.
Today I did, apparently Kris the quiet kid in accounting is a Strokes fan! YaY! So this conversation starter t-shirt rolled like this.. ‘hey I write for a blog there’s a few entries on The Strokes you should check it out- do you like The Libertines?’…
Well apparently I needed some hipping and today I got it in the form of some AMAZING raw talent. So as any generous citizen would do I am hipping you to my (drum roll please) Underground fun of the week!
We know I’m horribly mean (as proof in some earlier posts) if I think you’re a fake but .. ta da… Ladies and Gentlemen we have a winner….
First lets tackle the name:

What the hell it sounds like a birth control pill. I hop over to their myspace..
I flip about and throw a dart and hit Wrecking Ball first.. hmm the vocals are nice and clean, I like a band I can sing with and he reminds me of something sort Counting Crowish…and I listen… pleasant enough……..and then it happens it gets outstandingly GREAT! Holy crap a nice hidden hardcore scream in there, tucked in like a tootsie roll in a lollipop! YES!
I got a little scared cuz come Monday if I thought they sucked Id have to face my pal Kris or duck around the cubicles to avoid him.
But as I listen on I hit Walk Forward what great musicianship. I’m absolutely stoked at this point.
Its rare (to me) to find such diversity so close to home. I see literally hundreds of bands a year. As I run the myspace site in the back ground I keep popping back to see if its a different artist. Love that! I would have to say Walk Forward def makes me happy Sgt Ricketts has GREAT vocal depth and I love the chant, it makes me feel sorta 80s but without the giant hair. Its My Mind will be blasted all weekend.
Theyre playing around here alot within the next couple months and I cannot wait to catch them live.
k this is not a drug- but it IS rather addictive (yuk yuk….)
