Chris Brown was part of the Grammy ceremony on Sunday, as well as his ex-girlfriend Rihanna, whom he beat the hell out of three years ago. Remember?
According to a friend of the couple they spent some time together in a dressing room at the Staples Center where the Grammys are being held.
According to the LA Times, she made a request to reduce a restraining order against Brown to Level 1, allowing them to have contact, and she defended her decision in an interview with Rolling Stone:
‘I just didn't want to make it more difficult for him professionally. What he did was a personal thing — it had nothing to do with his career. Saying he has to be a hundred feet away from me, he can't perform at awards shows — that definitely made it difficult for him.’
It is typical of woman who have been beaten up or abused, but it is difficult to understand why women would still care about someone who hurt them so much,… and looking at Rihanna’s pictures after the beating speaks volume.
But why are other artists so willing to forgive the guy? Why is it suddenly okay for him to perform and act as if nothing had happened?
Again, have you seen the pictures of the vicious beating posted by TMZ in 2009? Why is Chris Brown now welcomed as if it was the return of the suffering hero? He was released on $50,000 bail, and here is a compilation of quotes from various Hollywood people defending the guy at the time:
Carrie Underwood: ‘I don’t think anybody actually knows what happened. I have no advice.’
Lindsay Lohan: ‘I have no comment on that. That’s not my relationship. I think they’re both great people.’
Nia Long: ‘I know both of them well. They’re young, and all we can do is pray for them at this point.’
Mary J. Blige: ‘They’re both young and beautiful people, and that’s it.’
And the most ridiculous of all:
Russell Simons: ‘And, you know, Disney kids are allowed a little bit more of a break. Sometimes you have to even feel sorry for them. […] I’m just saying, give this man a break. I spoke to him last night for a long time and I know how good of a young man he is. He’s having the same type of struggles that all those other Disney kids have and all the other people who have instant fame…and because of that one regretful incident, no one will give him a break.’
What a bunch of cowards! All these don’t-know-what-happened, it-is-not-my-business, don’t-want-to-judge are pathetic, again, look at Rihanna’s face after the beating, she had bruises to her face and arms and even bite marks!
Usher who dared to mildly criticize Brown, had to release this public apology:
‘I apologize on behalf of myself and my friends if anyone was offended. The intentions were not to pass judgment and we meant no harm. I respect and wish the best for all parties involved.’
Again, what a coward!
According to NPR, the Boston Public Health Commission's Start Strong Initiative polled teens in Boston to see how they felt about the incident just after Rihanna was severely beaten, and Casey Corcoran, the former director of Start Strong said: ‘Close to 50 percent of the young people we surveyed thought that Rihanna was actually responsible for the incident. They were blaming her.’
Jay-Z even released this statement, reacting to discussions implying that Rihanna had deserved this treatment:
‘You have to have compassion for others. Just imagine it being your sister or mom and then think about how we should talk about that. I just think we should all support her.’
This is incredible, this world is sick! But I am not someone who would forgive that easily to a man who beat up a woman. Recidivism is very high in case of domestic violence, and didn’t Brown have another behind-the-scene-rage episode a month later, when he was invited at Good Morning America and asked about the Rihanna incident?
But the Grammys don’t care about this, all they are concerned about is ,.. well, the Grammys, as executive producer Ken Ehrlich put it:
‘We’re glad to have him back, I think people deserve a second chance, you know. If you’ll note, he has not been on the Grammys for the past few years and it may have taken us a while to kind of get over the fact that we were the victim of what happened.’
Yes, he said it, the Grammys were the victim! Could he have said a more ridiculous statement?
But I guess, all forgiven because he just won Best R&B Album with F.A.M.E. Shame on the Grammys!
