New York Magazine’s deconstruction of the Spiderman On Broadway seems pretty ace on first glance (I’ve skimmed it but will definitely read.
Really, this is the story of two gargantuan egos, Julie Taymor and Bono, colliding.
I bet it will be great but I also bet it will lose money and I know the music will be a bloated disaster (what I’ve heard so far is the pits).
But it doesn’t answer one question: The title: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. With all that money at their disposal they couldn’t find a better name than this??? Really??? i can think of around a 1,000.
But even a simply return to basic The Amazing Spiderman is vastly superior to Turn Off The Dark. I mean, why not just call it “This will be an arty, self-important, serious, stupid take on a seminal comic book” and have done with it.
