New Music Week Of January 19th: Can’t Pay My Rent

Semi Precious Weapons – Semi Precious Weapons

“Can’t pay my rent but I’m fucking gorgeous”… now that’s the kinda swagger Adam Lambert should be bringing to the part. The song is another pop tart glam slam and Justin Tranter is so obviously a major star ready to break out and how and his four dates with Lady Gaga are gonna help tons. As will this lead track off Semi-Precious Weapons brand new EP of old songs rereleased. Still, I’d rather hear a good song twice…. Song Of The week

Giddy On Up – Laura Bell Bundy
Broadway star of Legally Blonde and Hairspray fame unleashes her inner cowgirl in the sand on this terrific raver which has more than enough giddy up and just plain giddiness it should charge up the country charts if not the pop.

Spanish Harlem Incident – James Mercer and Robert Mercer
Former Shin and his brother cover the early Dylan masterpiece for a Sweetheart 2010 compilation of fave arists fave love songs by other fave artists. This is a note for note replica with the brothers trading verses and that makes them very smart because it is precisely how to cover a song that needs nothing added at all. Astounding, guys.

Mansions Of Los Feliz – eels
I feel about eels what I feel about the TV show Lost. I got into it too late and can’t catch up. This is a catchy folkie stroll -very catchy, very pretty with a chick singer taking over the chorus. But I can’t get into eels -I feel like I am in the middle of a story and I don’t know where it’s going.

Baby – Justin Bieber
The kid’s fifteen and he sounds it but at least he’s singing R&B and not pop and while the Ludacris rap falls into the same somewhat patronizing category as the rap Ludacris did with Jesse McCartney (it’s like rap for children) I’d rather hear bad R&B then bad pop because when you have bad R&B at least you’ve still got a backbeat.

Fanatic – Heidi Montag – I would just ignore this because I feel kinda sorry for the somebody who can be so completely oblivious to how to make dance music. Listen to her and follow with Ke$ha or Young Money… everything about this song is doctored and tweaked and overproduced. If you think making great dance music is so easy why doesn’t everybody do it. If you think there is no art to David Guetta, Tiesto, Dr. Luke, Swiss Beatz, listen to Heidi and discover just how hard it is. People do play machines, you know.

Ride To California – Paper Tongues
Now why hasn’t somebody done this before? Oh, wait a second, Kid Rock did this hip hop hard boogie rock before and these cats do it really really well. Shinobi Ninjas should record with em -this rocks hard, raps fast and is a blast from start to finish.
