BEST SONGS OF JANUARY… JANUARY 2009 THAT IS

This is what I was listening to a year ago today… I’ll keep the reviews to a minimum  because I am tired of writing!!

My Dixie Darlin’ – Carlene Carter – then a coupla weeks later she was great at Joe’s Pub

Postcards From Italy – Beirut – The horns on the break are lovely

Move On Up – Curtis Mayfield – Still recovering from My Morning Jacket on New Year’s Eve when they played this.

Livin’ Under The Radar – Asian Dub Foundation – One part massive Attack, one part Buju Banton when he was doing dancehall.

I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry – Hank Williams – from the great Unreleased Box Set.

Big Fat Zero – Graham Parker – the bloke had the best snarl in the business

Home again – The Disco Biscuits – They give jam a good name by mixing dance in there.

You Broke My Heart in 17 Places – Tracey Ullman – I was on a Kirsty Macoll kick

New Paint – Loudon Wainwright III – I had just heard Costello’s cover on Spectacle.

Human – The Killers – I dislike Brandon Flowers more in theory then in practise.

Make War – Conor Oberst – “HE’S A KNOW IT ALL…’

My Stunning Mystery Companion – Jackson Browne – His last great song, try the Solo Acoustic version.

When the Stars Go Blue – Tyler Hilton and Bethany Joy Lenz Lenz – Sure ryan’s original was better but NOBODY BOUGHT IT

Alfie – Lily Allen – I went with this girl to see her at Terminal 5 and she pushed us all the way to the front and Lily was terrific.

Thank you, Too – My Morning Jacket – I’ll never forget that MSG concert. James should stop fucking about and get the band back together.

Love Story – Taylor Swift – Yup, that’s how old this song is.

Break My Little Heart In Two – Carlene Carter – A new country classic, if you ever get the chance buy it. Actually, just buy Stronger. It cuts step-sister Rosanne’s last five albums and then some.
