As I wrote about around a month ago theres a new musical on the horizon and this one looks more interesting than a Disney adaptation or fairy tale.
Motown; The Musical will open at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on April 14, 2013. There ya go, its official and with no one swinging from the ceiling or being shot out of cannons we can be fairly confident the opening will not be delayed.
The show announced that Brandon Victor Dixon and Valisia LeKae have been cast in the leading roles of Berry Gordy and Dianna Ross. Both actors have won numerous awards most recently LeKae for Book of Mormons.
Gordy has stated that this show will help audiences remember the old timer that so many of todays pop stars use for influence
"I feel that Motown is Broadway and Broadway is Motown," Gordy said in a video announcement Tuesday.
Yeah, not so sure what he was trying to get at with that one but he is Berry Gordy so be respectful.
Charles Randolph-Wright ("Ruined") will direct the show, which will feature music and lyrics from the Motown catalog – a collection that includes songs made famous by such hit-makers as Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles and Marvin Gaye.
