Lets start this post with two absolutely useless facts. Mod Sun has 1) the best teeth and 2) the best hair of Warped Tour. I think if at the end they give awards those should be his. That boys folks spent half a million dollars on those choppers and fine genetics gave him the locks of the cowardly lion.
Ok, that being said lets talk about the hippyhop scene Mod Sun creates. This Warped will get him some decent notoriety, he is so outrageously enthusiastic and energetic that having this kid kick off the Marley stage in Hartford was a perfect choice. Excitement flew and the weed burned as fans and soon to be fans circled around the never stopping ball of static. Rap wise, yeah hes got something to say but nothing we haven't heard a million times before by white suburban boys with a baggie, but what is different about Mod is he really sucks you in on a human level. His 'fanbase' vs 'friendbase' shtick seems oddly sincere. He really is a nice kid who is just a smidge too happy to not have it questioned.
"Hug Life", "Stoner Girl", all the tunes he is becoming known with are wonderfully executed on this gorgeous Sunday morning. All was well until he opted to check if the wireless mic worked. It did and with that there was no stopping him as he raced up the aisles and stood on chairs, a bad boy just having innocent fun..in a cloud of maryjane.
As you can see in the below video Mr Sun was right up and personal making his fans turn direction as he performed from the audience. A nice touch and an even stronger nod to his true interaction with his 'friends' or fans.. just pause there, they are fans unless you'll loan them $20 til payday.. so that's that.
I adore this kid and from the first time he (literally) fell off his tour bus in Boston and threw his arms around me like I was his long lost mother at the Breathe Carolina show, I have had a soft spot for the little white rapper who oozes positivity like a pierced jello mold. You really want to love him and if his tunes are a bit cliche' well then so what, hes having fun. Hes smiling wide enough his dentist to get a raise and well, we really are all friends aren't we?
