Mitch Miller, Band Leader, Has Joined That Orchestra In the Sky by Helen Bach

In general I will steer clear of obituary’s but in honor of one of musics finest beards, I will make exception.

World renowned band leader Mitch Miller passed away at the amazing age of 99.

“Sing Along With Mitch” the NBC show of the 1960s gave us the catch phrase of ‘follow the bouncing ball’ as the lyrics rolled past on the screen!

Such a cool idea

although the critics were tough on him

“He is an odd-looking man,” New York Times critic Brooks Atkinson wrote in 1962. “His sharp beard, twinkling eyes, wrinkled forehead and mechanical beat make him look like a little puppet as he peers hopefully into the camera. By now most of us are more familiar with his tonsils than with those of our families.”

He was a legend though working with the likes of Rosemary Clooney to Sinatra. He had chorus’ hits he had vinyl on every Victrola.

Miller passed away Saturday night after a brief illness.
