Miley Cyrus Defends Herself Against Asinine Claims She Is Overweight

I have a friend who is chronically obsessed with her weight. Oddly enough, she looks much better with a body than without one, but she is convinced that having a stomach is a turn off to males.

But that's what our culture has presented us. In the 16th century weight was a symbol of the aristocracy -poor people couldn't afford to be fat. But over the following four hundred years it became inverted. If all you an afford to eat is fast food, you're gonna weigh more than people who can afford a healthy diet.

So for girls, thinness is a symbol of chic and wealth, fatness is a curse and what follows is obvious: eating disorders, bulimia, anorexia, death. Or at the least, as in my my friend's case, a constant battle with self esteem.

Enter Miley Cyrus, a lovely young woman, being insulted by blogs as being fat. This is what Miley tweeted in response:

"By calling girls like me fat, this is what you're doing to other people."

"I love MYSELF & If you could say the same you wouldn't be sitting on your computer trying to hurt others

"I don't wanna be shaped like a girl. I LOVE being shaped like a WOMAN & trust me ladies your man won't mind either ;)"

Demi Lovato, who just went to rehab for an eating disorder, added: "god I love you. SO DO YOU!!! And whoever called you that has it coming. ps SO proud of you for posting that! #curvesareBEAUTIFUL."

Good for both of them. Nobody can exist like that… if you want to date girls who look like boys, why not just date boys?
