1. Lonely Is (As Lonely Does) – the dBs – Of all the bands I coulda sworn would hit it big and didn't, this is the one that shocked me most. Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple are two of the great songwriters of the 1980s and this track off their third album, Like This, is a wonder of melodic self help: power pop in excelsis.
2.. Call Me – Petula Clark – "If you're feeling sad and lonely, there's a service I can render…." Those horns are so Bacharah meets Herb Alpert it imprints the date on your brain.
3. Running On Nothing – Fucked Up – The Who's Quadrophenia meets hardcore. They own Townsend royalties.
4. JuJu Man – Rockpile – Off the live at Montreux album and they take it too fast, Stick to Dave Edmunds original version -BUT STICK TO DAVE EDMUNDS ORIGINAL VERSION.
5. Wavin' Flag – University Of Richester – A full choir take on K'naan's excellent pacificst rant.
6. Never Gonna Change (Acoustic) – Superheavy – Jagger in full blown Stones ballad mode
7. Honking Down The Highway – The Beach Boys – Man, these guys were on fire on Loves You -Wilson never mixed his eccentric persona with his pop sensibility to better effect.
8. Goblin – Tyler, The Creator – The best song on the best album of the year.
9. TV Luv Song – Wavves
10. Submarine – The Drums – After this it was all over but the awards, the critical acclaim… the LOVE!!!
