I have come to the conclusion there should be a Holiday Song Advisory Board. Every band needs to submit to them six months in advance what Christmas song they would like to cover. This governing board would then approve or reject. Maybe, in the spirit of the season the board will offer an alternative.
There are some humongous migraine inspiring bags of crap covers- churned out so the teens will drop a buck on iTunes for a 'cool' holiday song. Yeah, I'm thinking these aren't done for anything more than to make sure your band isn't left out of the hustle bustle gift card shuffle.
With leads me to…This Providence.
I hate this band. The lead singer mumbles like marbles- like a bad Joe Cocker swallowed a helium balloon or Wayne Newton (look it up). Just jaw droppingly bad.
"All I Want For Christmas Is You", is what this group of fail chose to do.
And its great. Yup, its a darn good cover of a great and meaningful song. The upbeat rhythm the background noise and yes event the phlegmy vocals of Dan Young sound amazingly good. I hate even writing this but I have to be honest. This is by far the best work that This Providence has ever done.
Id drop the buck on it. Fantastic holiday cover.
