In July Faithfull broke her back. Marianne is 66 years old. Frail? Not at all she is more beautiful and vibrant as ever. I find her almost regal in her appearance and her demeanor and as far as ‘old broads’ from ‘back in the day’ she has weathered it beautifully- well aside from breaking her sacrum I(that’s the large bone at the base of your spine- she must have fallen VERY hard. I cant even fathom what force could break it).
But she’s a trooper and still booked a tour for August with hopes of being mobile enough to fulfill her dream of performing in Lebanon. It’s not going to happen and in a really sweet message she explains,
“I am so sad I won’t be able to sing for you on Saturday. I broke my back in July and hoped and prayed I would be better enough to be able to do the performance on 17th August, although it’s not very long, but my recovery was going well. Alas
I have never been to the Lebanon though I know it through books. It looks like one of the most beautiful places in the world. I still hope to be able to come one day not too far away when I’m completely healed and have my dream to sing in Beirut come true.
Also out is a September 16 show at City Winery in New York and September 22 and 23 shows at City Winery in Chicago.”
Look the old coot spent 4 weeks in the hospital before she could even fly home to recuperate in Paris. She’s 66. She’s hardcore, but maybe its time to enjoy the scenery.
