According to ESPN: “After three years of construction, Madison Square Garden unveiled its $1 billion renovation. The “Transformation” includes two “Chase Bridges” that run high above and parallel to the length of the event floor, a remodeled Chase Square 7th Avenue entrance that features two 600-square-foot video screens on the ceiling, a state-of-the-art GardenVision scoreboard, new suites and food options, and renovated concourses among many upgrades.”
So I got my first viewing on Friday night for the Eagles and I am wowed… to a degree. The 7th Avenue entrance not only was speed lightning to get into but the “Chase Square” is absolutely gorgeous (you can see my picture there) though after you get past the wow factor, it is the same old windows to buy tix from. Getting into the Arena is fine but they don’t put proper directions on the tickets so every one piles into the closest and the gridlock is dangerous on the escalators: it is a disaster waiting to happen.
The bridge seats look like fun , they replace the old 300s and hang over and closer but higher than the 200s. But the main selling point is seats and the 200s are wider and with more leg room than they used to be, vastly vastly superior to the Barclay Center equivalent. Honestly, the new MSG is hands down the best Arena I’ve ever been. The food court can get narrow and it is a pain in the neck to get past the crowds queueing for food. I don’t know what it will like leaving at the end of the night but my bet is the stairwell is your bet.
SO, is it perfect? Not close, but a billion bucks later it is a beautioful thing and it will be blast having it as my local Arena.
