M.I.A. Speaks (And Disses Diplo & Oprah)… But Not To Us

M.I.A. is very outspoken, and she already got in trouble with interviews in the past, remember about the Tamil revolutionary girl eating truffle-flavored French fries at the terrace of the Beverly Wilshire hotel and giving birth in a Cedars-Sinai’s private room? It was in this NY Times interview, which didn’t sit well with M.I.A., but never mind, she talked to a Rolling Stone journalist on Friday, in honor of  the 10th anniversary of her groundbreaking album ‘Arular’.

And here are the juiciest parts of the interview. First, her rocky relationship with Diplo, who appears to be a real asshole-y control-freak, if you believe what M.I.A. has to say. This is how she describes the beginning of her career with the famous DJ:

‘By the time that was happening to me, I was with Diplo and he basically just like shat on every good thing that was happening to me, and I just didn’t enjoy it because if I was on a cover of a magazine he’ll be like, “What do you want to do, like be on the dentist waiting room table? Like, is that what a magazine is for? It’s corny. Like, don’t do magazines.”’

Diplo was in fact a very jealous guy:

‘When I got signed by Interscope, he literally smashed my hotel room and broke all the furniture because he was so angry I got picked up by a major label and it was the corniest thing in the world that could possibly happen.’

He made a scene when Missy Elliott called M.I.A. for a collaboration, and do you believe it? Diplo had the green envy each time she was in the spotlight: ‘It’s shit, it’s shit, it’s shit. You shouldn’t be on the charts. You shouldn’t be in the magazines and you should not be going to interviews. You should not be doing collaborations with famous people. You should be an underground artist.”

‘It’s only now when I look back at it in 2015, I can see that he was just jealous and he couldn’t wait to be Taylor Swift’s best friend and date Katy Perry,’ added M.I.A. ‘But at that time I believed him. I just felt like he was right, and he was something of a political, righteous person with some values. I didn’t realize it was just jealousy. ‘

I will let you the judge, was it this bad? According to rolling Stone, Diplo posted this picture of him cuddling with M.I.A. on Instagram and M.I.A. posted another one on Twitter, just after the interview, so you have to wonder what is real in all this. She describes an abusive relationship and they are the best friends? That’s why I dislike them both, dissing themselves in public just to get the attention… these two hypocrites truly deserve each other.

In the same interview, M.I.A. also belittles Oprah, who allegedly said she was a terrorist: ‘In 2009, Time nominated me for one of the most influential people of the 21st century or something and I met Oprah at that party. And I was like, ‘Hey, people are gonna fucking die in my country. Like, please pay attention.’ And she was like, ‘You’re shit because you were rude to Lady Gaga and I’m not talking to you. And I’m gonna interview Tom Cruise jumping on my sofa, so fuck off.’ […] ‘She shut me down. She took that photo of me, but she was just like, “I can’t talk to you because you’re crazy and you’re a terrorist.”

I am no fan of Oprah, but sure, the always very-professional Oprah said this! May be it’s just me but I don’t believe a word coming from M.I.A.’s big mouth.
