With the hardly groundbreaking news that the actress Janet Hubert, who blames Will Smith for her being canned from Fresh Prince Of Bel Air considered him an asshole and an egomaniac. Of course Smith is an egomaniac, even his kids are and they haven't accomplished anything yet. As are the three names on this little list.
Anyway, it got me to thinking about rock stars and egomania. There seems to be three types.
1. Lou Reed. Reed is so out of control, he thinks it is beneath his dignity to even speak to other people. Metallica? Yes. You? Not so fast. I've seen him a number of times and he has been jjust completely horrible. What is his problem? Lou is so nasty, it effects my perception of his music. Reed was undoubtedly a genuis in his prime, though it has been a long time since New York. And he was an asshole then, anyway. Have you ever read his fights with Lester Bangs?
2. Bono. Bono's egomania manifests itself as a Messiah complex. Bono meets his rock star sheen with his save the world banality and invents a new type of mania, tripping over its feet as it empathizes with third world poverty in a very Mastah way, while guilting out his fans, who can't afford to follow his philanthropic works. I think Bono is a pretty smart guy but his charity work stinks. And anyway, it is all about how good he is.
3. Chris martin has a type of egomania that hides in plane sight. The public school boy hides his ego in self-effacement. "I am so sorry to be a bother but I do take pride in being the last rock band around to actually produce good albums. Goodness gracious no, U2 are much better than us. We are the 6th greatest band in the world". The man is a psychopath,
Actually, all three are psychopaths
