1.Toledo – Elvis Costello And Burt Bacharach – This is one of a handful of times where Costello the song composer trumps Costello the songwriter. This is one of those rare songs where everything is perfect: the mood of distressed guilt, help together by the girl back up singers like a Greek chorus, and a metaphor playing on the origins of the city name. And finally the horns, adding to its anxious beauty. Grade: A+
2. Rid Of Me – PJ Harvey – Playing with the loudness of the volume might have seemed like a powerful statement about how to listen to it (the song's recorded so low, you put it up louder and so when Steve Albini raises the volume it blows your ears off) but right now it is just an irritant. Doesn't ruin the song by any means – Grade: A
3. Church Of The Poison Mind – Culture Club – The harp at the start is killer – Grade: B+
4. Glitter – Ghostland Observatory – Soul meets dance – Grade: B+
5. Don't Lose Touch – Against Me! – A highlight of last nights gig? Maaaaaaybe – Brade: B+
6. The Payback – James Brown – This is where soul goes to die and be reborn as funk – Grade: A
7. After The Gold Rush – Patti Smith – Wow, it's even slower than the original. Plus, the children's choir? Not so much – Grade: C
8. Adrenaline Nightshift – Japandroids – Astounding rocker, those guitars? Just like ringing a bell – Grade: A
9. No More – Elvis Presley – A rewrite of a Spanish classic -hence the flamenco echoes – Grade: A
10. Disarm – The Mynabirds – Yes, it's come to this – Grade: B-
