I never skip an occasion to write about the noise-punk band METZ, especially because they were so impressive  live (I saw them twice), with a sound so loud and bold they can brutalize your ears for an hour and make you ask for more.

This week, Adult Swim’s Singles Program, a series of free download singles, has released a new METZ’s song, ‘Can’t Understand, which follows the same but very efficient recipe as before: Let’s build a pop song under a massive hardcore-noisy disguise. ‘Can’t Understand’ works like many of the songs off  METZ’s self-titled debut album, it sounds as if the band was playing some steroid-enhanced grunge-punk-inspired tune at the bottom of a vortex of noise and distortion. Dominated by Alex Edkins’ raging and distant vocals, the track is fueled by a rare destruction, and the abrasive and furious sound brings chaos with an ear-splitting effect.

The song also comes with this odd and funny artwork representing a icy creature looking like sort of white Chewbacca-Yeti… half cute and fuzzy, half colossal and dangerous.
