The two Bleached sisters, Jessica and Jennifer Clavin, have a new single out, ‘Next Stop’, and it sounds as beach-y-laid-back-garage-rock as usual. Like several other Californian bands of the moment (Ty Segall, Best Coast, FIDLAR, White Fence, Pangea, …), they manage to bring a fusion of retro sounding riffs with a youthful modern energy. But this time, the song doesn’t go overboard, it’s not a wild ride, it rather stays on a safe speed with a steady but energetic tempo, and enough feel-good-harmonies to fill your world with plenty of Californian sun despite the melancholic lyrics.
It’s more pop than punk, it’s girlie pop à la Dum Dum Girls with a bright twist, and there is a certain subjacent punky savor below the sweet harmonies, I know, I have seen Bleached live twice.
I have no idea if this song will reflect the tone of their upcoming album ‘Ride Your Heart’, which will be out on April 2nd via Dead Ocean, but here is the tracklist:
01. Looking For A Fight
02. Next Stop
03. Outta My Mind
04. Dead In Your Head
05. Dreaming Without You
06. Waiting By The Telephone
07. Love Spells
08. Searching Through The Past
09. Ride Your Heart
10. Dead Boy
11. Guy Like You
12. When I Was Yours
