I watched Pony Boy perform a few weeks ago at the Troubadour, as she was opening for Clairy Browne & The Bangin’ Rackettes and I immediately felt under her charm. As a nice coincidence, her new song ‘Trouble’ was featured in an episode of ABC series Nashville on Wednesday night.
The new tune, that you can stream below, is a perfect example of Marchelle Bradanini’s, aka Pony Boy, sultry and sexy voice, crooning over a film noir atmosphere, only habited by twanging guitars and discreet percussion. During this slow-burning and languishing ballad, you can lose yourself in the tumbleweed soundscape and the smoky ambiance of a middle-of-nowhere bar. It’s a murder country ballad sung by Tom Waits dreaming of Patsy Cline and filmed by David Lynch.
Pony Boy has already received nice mentions in Lucky Magazine, VICE, and ‘Trouble’ even premiered in Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday. So let Pony Boy (a S.E. Hinton’s ‘The outsider’/Allman Brothers/Bruce Springsteen references, all in one moniker!) seduce you, her ‘junkyard doom wop soul country blues’ can just do this, very easily.
