Liam Gallagher is an insensitive idiot, what’s new? In an interview to NME, when asked if he was a fan of the 80s band Adam and the Ants, he said this:
‘Adam and the Ants? No. Not into a geezer who wears make-up. Especially fucking nutty ones. And tell him 'You're not the only one who's off his tits.’
Adam Ants, who was diagnosed as suffering with bipolar disorder in 2003, has been open about it, declaring in 2010 after an incident which sent him to mental hospital:
‘I've had this lifelong battle against manic depression but I've had to overcome it for her sake. Times got bad. I lost my mind. But I'm back.’
Since his comment, Gallagher has been rightly criticized, especially by mental health charity Mind, and by Sue Baker, who is in charge of the charity campaign looking to end discrimination in the workplace against those who suffer from mental illness. This is what she said:
‘It's not helpful for people brave enough to be open to be met with name calling. Many celebrities, like Adam Ant, have spoken out about their mental health problems and we are so grateful that they do.’
But the two men have a naughty history: In 2010, Adam Ant challenged Gallagher for obscure reasons to a fight and wrote a song attacking both Gallagher brothers, saying that Oasis had only ‘got one fucking song’, referring to Wonderwall.
Also declaring to the Quietus: ‘So here you go Liam, you cunt. I'd like to have a fight with him whichever way he wants: physically, mentally I'd beat him in anyway shape or form, I know that.’
Then, at the beginning of 2011, Beady Eye’s Andy Bell played bass on a track for Ant’s new album, and Ant claimed Gallagher attempted to ban him from using the song, threatening him there would be trouble if he would not respect his demand. Ant used the song anyway and declared that 'nobody tells him what to do', and that ‘This is a personal thing between me and him, and we will deal with it man-to-man.’
The fight does not seem to be over, but at least Adam Ant has the bipolar excuse, what is Liam Gallagher’s excuse for bad behavior?
