Ah yes, the Stone Roses. Booted off the top of the bill for Blur at Coachella, the Stone Roses have been travelling the world while missing out on nyc, really the US if you don't include the festival, while playing… Dubai -the new center of money!
The Stone Roses are a legendary Madchester dance band, the sound of ecstasy with a rock and roll back beat and the 1990s game changer who, in the UK, pulled the country out of the 1970s more thoroughly than grunge ever did. But between the five year break between the first and the second album and the relative disappointment of the second, and the obvious and overt Englishness of the band, they were very much a cult band in the States.
Neither the Roses nor Blur have really played the US in ages -despite Damon Albarn's promise at the top of 2012 of a US Tour.
Meanwhile, Noel and Liam have made trips here. And Liam has been following Stone Roses around and apparently annoying everybody. Contactmusic.com report: "It's all gone a bit sour recently with Liam and The Roses. There was an ugly incident in Dubai where Liam said a few things that were totally out of order. It didn't go down well at all.''Ian [Brown], John [Squire] and Reni are all low-profile lads and don't subscribe to aggro of any sort.''The 'Fool's Gold' hitmakers were also said to be unhappy with Liam's insistence at watching them from the side of the stage and drawing attention to himself. The source added to The Sun newspaper: ''They were also getting a little bit pissed off with him ballooning on the side of the stage every time they played a gig. He had to be escorted off at one show and put behind the mixing desk because he was making such a scene. He was then thrown out of there for spilling beer on the desk. 'He was generally being a bit of a nob – and The Roses can't be arsed with the pantomime."
A bit of nob is, of course, the definition of Liam for the past 20 years, the surprise is the Stone Roses mellowing with age.
