Led Zep! These guys are the poster boys of classic rock and timeless rock and roll cool. You don’t have to be a fan to admire the longevity and the timelessness of these guys.
Recent release of old concert footage sold out theaters and cause as much buzz as an actual tour(sorta). They’re blowing up the charts as well. Their new live album, union, sold a projected 98,000 copies last week according to industry site Hits Daily Double, good enough to bring it in at 9 or 10.
This is old music, from a one night only concert and it's charting. That’s insane. Live albums often have a hard time climbing the charts but not these guys. The Song Remains the Same went to number 2 and How the West Was Won to the top. Only BBC Sessions didn’t make the top ten, studio or live, peaking at number 12. This simply proves that their old fans are still around and that new fans are born all the time. What an odd and fascinating scenario.
I wonder if they started up today if they would achieve the same level of success or if the enduring popularity they now have is nostalgia and a yearning for ‘real rock and roll’. Will the band ever reform, reunite and do a 50th anniversary tour such as The Rolling Stones? Could be and I’m pretty damn sure the ticket buying riots wouldn’t be far behind
