So far Rock NYC has been split down the middle on Fox’s show Glee. Helen and I don’t like it, Bobby and Mary do. But when my friend Nicole Masalsky said I had to check out the cover of Barbra Streisand’s “Don’t Rain On My Parade” on the season finale, I went straight to Hulu.
Impressive. Not Streisand but not amateur at all. This was broadway good and no wonder. “Don’t rain On My Parade” was belted right over the top by Lea Michele. Who she you ask?
Lea Michele first came to my attention in her award nominated turn in the first true rock musical, the coming of idea Spring Awakening. The music was by our very own Duncun Sheik and I considered it a flat out masterpiece.
Now here’s the moral: it takes a Broadway star, even a young one, to sing a Streisand song.
