Keep On Running -by Alyson Camus

You know what is the number one New Year’s resolution? Lose weight, get fit, join a gym, or some temporary obsessive idea of this kind. Very few persons will actually do it, but there is always next year.
And if you want my advice, run, that’s the best way to do it! Here are twenty running songs:

– ‘Keep the car running’ by Arcade Fire: I hesitated between this one and ‘Wake-up’, or ‘Ready to start’, but it has the right drumbeat, and when the waaaoos come, you have the right inspiration for your perspiration.

– ‘Race for the Prize’ by the Flaming Lips: Run as if it was the last hour of your life, as if your life depended on it, this blasting drumbeat will help you. There is something so victorious and absurd in this song, so you will need to raise your fist.

– ‘Run Run Run’ by The Velvet Underground: Running is a repetitive action and you need to keep the cadence.

– ‘You can run’ by A Flock of Seagulls: You see the miles passing in front of your eyes with this song, and yes, you can run!

– ‘Road To Nowhere’ by Talking Heads: Because, when you are on a treadmill, you are really going nowhere, but this little Cajun touch and these ‘Ha’s will whip your behind. There is also the alternative of ‘Psycho Killer’, with its ‘Run run run run run run run away’…

– ‘Run, pig, run’ by Queens of the Stone Age: It may give you motivation, since, yeah you just ate like a pig, but it may also scare you, which is not a bad thing to elevate the adrenaline level,… there’s no safe place, come on, run!

– ‘On the Run’ by Electric Light Orchestra: If you feel nostalgic, be sure you can run and feel happy at the same time! These little synth breaks will even make you jump when you’re at it.

– ‘Heart of Glass’ by Blondie: The rhythm is excellent for running, and you may need that heart of glass, but don’t break it.

– ‘Run away with you’ by Los Lobos: If it does not motivate you, I don’t know what can! There are these jazzy mix of saxo, beats and distorted guitars and you’ll think about running away with the person you like the most.

– ‘Coma Girl’ by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros: Because that was your state of mind during the last few months, the song however, is anything but in a coma.

– ‘Here It Goes Again’ by OK Go: Just think about the video: treadmills!

-‘Wake up’ by Rage Against the Machine: You have the rage inside, the rage against this treadmill, but if the trembling electric guitar is too paranoiac for you, just skip it!

– ‘Run’ by Vampire Weekend: You may slow down a bit on this one, but it is still fun, and you need to recover a little.

– ‘Minus’ by Beck: ‘When the cup is filled you can run and be killed/In the billion miles of the muscles that build’, Yes! Another whipping drumbeat, you just want to accelerate and feel the wind in your hair with this one, but be careful when Beck hits the brakes.

– ‘Knights Of Cydonia’ by Muse: I am not a fan of the band, but these galloping horses and this operatic-cinematic setting will make you run faster than you had never thought you could.

– ‘Run the Heart’ by Sleigh Bells: Any song of the band will make your heart accelerate, so you better move.

– ‘Middle Distance Runner’ by Sea Wolf: You will feel as light as the air on this one, and it’s still Ok to be a ‘middle’ distance runner if you want my opinion.

– ‘Can’t Run But’ by Paul Simon:  ‘I can’t run but I can walk much faster than this’, yes it’s still Ok to walk when the music is that fluid and subtle.

– ‘Run’ by Gnarls Barkley: The music will certainly make you dance, and it’s Cee Lo who wants you to RUN! Words and music both perfectly fit the situation.

– ‘Born to run’ by Bruce Springsteen: The ultimate song for running, yes humanity was born to run, but many ignore it.

The possibilities are endless,…Ok, you have no excuse now.
