Phoenix, Face, Ballerina, Power and Priest, are the names of a larger-than-life celebrity’s latest offspring, or close to that: this is how Kanye West named his 5 scarves, a collection released by M/M (Paris).
The dailymail is reporting that West had asked M/M to design the packaging for his last album ‘My beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, and since George Condo, an American contemporary visual artist, had created a series of paintings about the characters populating West’s fantasy, he and M/M decided to use them to make these 100% silk scarves,… this is how the press release describe them:
‘Each of the five scarves features one of the album covers painted by George Condo
embedded in an intricate gold frame with hand drawn lettering by M/M (Paris).
The combination of this luxurious visual language over the traditional Twill de Soie
is the ultimate celebration of the magically ornamented sounds of My Beautiful Dark
Twisted Fantasy. ‘
And remember all the publicity around his album cover? The fact that West had proclaimed it was banned in the USA and had forced Wal-Mart to deny banning the image? Condo himself said that the artwork was a publicity stunt, telling the New Yorker that Kanye had been looking for 'something that will be banned'.
Anyway the scarves will be sold via M/M (Paris)'s website or at a French boutique, and each of them will be produced in a limited edition of 100 units at the nice price of $364 each. I personally would not spend a dime on any of them but I have no sense of fashion.
