I suppose you know it by now, Entertainment Hollywood and gossip celebrities have shouted out all weekend long, the great experiment is over, Katy Perry and Russell Brand are getting divorced. According to TMZ (I know!) and many other sites, Katy Perry wanted Russell Brand to file the court papers in their divorce and be the one to officially end the marriage, because ‘she didn’t want to upset her religious parents’. Indeed, evangelical Christians don’t agree with divorce, so she had to make them (?) us (?) believe that he was the one wanting the divorce where as it is clear that both of them knew the relationship was over and had agreed to separate a few weeks ago.
I couldn’t care less about what is happening with these two,but can we realize a minute how hypocritical this is? However her whole life and career are hypocritical, and writing about this insignificant celebrity misstep is just another occasion to point out how religious people can be beyond insincere and just plain fraudulent.
What can I say, good-Christian Perry’s parents were all right with nice Katy selling her soul to the devil by making videos showing her boobs firing fireworks, posing half-naked on the cover of Rolling Stone or in a cotton candy cloud, singing about being a lesbian and liking it, or being the California gurl melting men’s popsicles, but they have a problem with divorce?
I mean every time she pops up on TV, she is running around nearly naked, even showing her big tits to little children,… and I have nothing against this, guys, but this is totally inconsistent with what she is preaching about god and religion. In her all-arranged vision of what is ok with god and what is not, using her naked body in provocative positions is god-approved, but not divorce? What kind of logic is this?
Her last move shows how scared of religion and her religious parents she still is. At this point it is superstition, because if she thinks God exists, God knows what was going on in her marriage, right? So why does it matter who is filling the papers? And if she is that scared of her parents, this proves one more time that religion is totalitarian institution which reigns by fear, and abuses children.
Didn’t she say that she was not allowed to say ‘deviled eggs’ or ‘Dirt Devil’ when she was little? so ridiculous! Planned Parenthood was considered lik ethe abortion clinic by her family, and she ‘was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there’. Plus, her parents are regularly speaking in tongues,something totally normal for her, as a ‘direct prayer language to God’.
When I read this I actually felt sorry for her, and while she is claiming everywhere that Christianity stole her childhood, she is far from being over religion. With this last move, she is showing she cannot even take responsibility for what is happening in her life, and she is making Brand looking like the bad guy who is signing the divorce papers.
At least they stayed married longer than Sinead O’Connor.
