‘So Help me God’? Really, that’s all Kanye could come up with? As Iman wrote a few days ago, the rapper has dropped the title of his upcoming album and the title by itself (not the music that I probably will never listen to, as I can’t stand autotune) needs a review. Beside the obvious joke – Kanye is beyond help so why is he asking for help? – I wonder why he picked such a title… What help is he looking for? Not financial obviously, not spiritual because he is a self-proclaimed God… God doesn’t need help from God!
I am just surprised there is not the word ‘artistry’ or ‘Beyonce’ in the title (Help me Beyonce?’may be) because these are the two words he has used the most lately. Instead, he continues with his Yeezus/God imagery…. apparently the cover art represents a some 13th century monastic symbols for the virgin Mary and allow me to say something … a genius designer like Kanye West was not able to come up with his own design and had to steal something from the Middle Ages?
I joke about Kanye West all the time, but he must be the most divisive musician ever, people either love him or hate him, he sure polarizes people, however I just don’t get the coverage that this guy can receive. He comes up with the most trite title (honestly, the God reference is getting old) and everyone is talking about the name, when it is just a name…. Does any other artist get that kind of coverage? No way! But West’s greatest attraction is outside his music and at this point he is better known for his ADD rants and his stupid and egocentric quotes (‘I’m a proud non-reader’ or ‘my greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform’) than for his music… Kanye gets angry all the time, but he doesn’t even know why he was angry for at the end of his ramble, and this is entertaining I must admit it, but I will never understand the genius part, and the adulation.
Going back to God, ‘God chose me. He made a path for me. I am God’s vessel,’ Kanye the genius said this at one point, and honestly, there are only two possibilities at this point, either he was joking or he was serious and mentally ill. I am always hoping for the first solution but looking at what he says all the time, he is probably crazy in his head.
