Kanye West 2013 Setlist Annotated And Spotified

Jesus meets Yeezus, share croissants

So, the tour has begun, and while I won’t be catching Kanye West for another month it is never too soon to start checking out the dancecard, is it? Plus, with the joy of Spotify, you can listen to it as well!! It includes the entire ten songs off Yeezus and that is enough for me, really no complaints here. Indeed, my only real complaint is that there isn’t more from 808s, So, till I get the chance to rave in person, here is the Kweezy setlist, graded and Spotified!!

1. On Sight – The opening track of the new album, is a tweaked out noise horrorshow of the first order. This is why Lou Reed has been raving – A+

2. New Slaves – Sure, he is an egomaniac who can turn all sympathy right against him. But so what? he’s right. This is where you’ll find his “I’d rather be a dick than a swallower” – A

3. Send It Up – The closest Yeezus comes to a deep album track, and that effect in the background, whenever the song plays I forget it is from the song and I look around for it – A

4. Mercy – Sounds like the best song Rick Ross has ever written – B+

5. POWER – Complete knock out pop rocker (except it’s rap) off the middle of three albums of unalloyed genius – A

6. Cold – With DJ Khaled, minor stuff, that sample? We’ve heard it before  – B

7. Black Skinhead – I still say the drums come to us via Gary Glitter – A

8. I Don’t Like – Chief Keef – This is a terrific nursery rhyme of a rap – A

9. I Am A God – The one where he  can’t find his croissants – A

10. Coldest Winter – A heartbreaker of the first order – A

11. Can’t Tell Me Nothing – This was maybe the second or third best song at Randall’s Island – A

12 Hold My Liquor – Takes a minute to kick itself into gear but it is ruminating sounds till then – A-

13. I’m In It – Against, the sample slash sound effect would carry a lesser track – A-

14. Guilt trip – This is a pop song have a really really bad trip, it sounds like the synth rush of pop but than keeps derailing itself – A

15. Heartless –A flat out hip hop masterpiece ballad who echoes from there to new r&b without a break – A+

16. Blood on the Leaves – Sure, it is as strange and maybe cynical an idea as possible to use a lynching for an emotional disaster but I think Kanye is smart enough to think that people don’t need their hands held – A

17. I Wonder – Oddly out of place (I wonder what he plans to do with it life), it sounds like John Legend hijacked graduation for a track – B-

18. Runaway – Kanye west And Pusha T – I have nothing left to say about this song, if you don’t love it then Kanye isn’t for you – A+

19. Hey Mama – A tribute to his Mommy long before she died and perfects the second most beautiful song he has ever written – A+

20. Street Lights – Deep album cut off 808s, not bad, not great… – B-

21. Lost In The World – One of his great songs that doesn’t work for me except for Justin’s singing back up – B

22. Heard ‘Em Say – I love the way badass Kanye plays off pussy ass Adam Levine – B+

23. Stronger – A greatest hit with a hook every one sang for a year – A

24. Through The Wire – Oretty good track off a damn fine but not yet KANYE album – B+

25. Jesus Walks – I remember when this first came out, every hip hop concert I went to, there was Kweey singing this –B+

26. Flashing Lights – Instead of “Gold Digger”? Go figure – B

27. All Of The Lights – This is more like it, you can almost feel Kanye wrapping it up before

28. Bound 2 – Best sample on earth end of the show, a ha honey  – A
