‘We get this bitch shaking like Parkinson’s’… and that’s because of this sentence that Kanye West is in trouble? Really? Out of all the offensive lines and obscenities in the new record, he is in trouble for that line?
The advocacy group Parkinson’s UK declared that the rapper showed ‘an inexcusable level of stupidity’ in the song ‘On Sight’ where he compared a woman’s trembling to the neurological disease.
The organization’s chief executive Steve Ford released the statement:
‘Life with Parkinson’s is difficult enough without becoming fodder for insensitive celebrities, who should know better. Kanye West has shown an inexcusable level of stupidity and cruelty towards people living with an incurable condition … People with Parkinson’s have to cope with intolerable social discrimination on a daily basis – often to the point where they are afraid to go out in public – and this sort of thoughtless, callous comment can only serve to make things even worse for them.’
I don’t understand why people still care about rap lyrics when rap has been around for decades! West could be sued, or at least severely criticized, for being racist and sexist since almost each line in ‘Yeezus’ has the potential to offend someone from feminist associations, civil right activists or ethnic groups, … these now infamous lines, ‘I’d rather be a dick than a swallower’, ‘Your titties let them out free at last/ thank god almighty they free at last’, ‘Eatin’ Asian pussy/all I need is sweet and sour sauce’ being just a few examples! Why do people expect rap lyrics (like any other lyrics) to be politically correct? This is beyond my comprehension. Should literature and dialogues in movies be inoffensive? Certainly not, and people have in general no problem with a character in a movie saying and doing the worst things in the world, but they raise eyebrows when it is in a song.
We went through the exact same story when Rick Ross had to apologize for some lyrics he wrote about date rape, and I used an example from Eminem’s work talking about the same thing, and how funny! I could do exactly the same thing here, as Eminem wrote in ‘Won’t Back Down Lyrics’, ‘Girl shake that ass like a donkey with Parkinson’s/Make like Michael J. Fox is in your drawers playin’ with a etch-a-sketch’
Did Michael J. Fox sue him? No of course! Plus this Kayne West’s line is probably one of the least offensive line in ‘Yeezus’ as he uses a disease as a metaphor but hardly makes fun of it. People have to stop being offended by lyrics in rap songs, they are almost all offensive, this is the nature of the art. Rather, people should keep their outrage when someone says something racist or sexist in real life, like this human marshmallow TV cook Paula Dean, who was in the news today for admitting she has no problem using the N-word, except if it is being used in ‘cruel or mean behavior’. What a douche!
