Writer Todd Leibowitz Journeys to Nassua Coliseum and checks out the new Black Crowe’s recording:
Lets start off with Heart. Ann and Nancy Wilson were incredible. They played a solid set for a little over an hour. All the big hits were done…”Crazy on You”, “Barracuda”, “These Dreams”, etc. They also did amazing covers of the Who’s “Reign on Me” and Led Zeps “Going to California”. I would of loved for them to play more. They were great. When they got off the stage, I told my wife that they could blow Journey off the stage. Lets see….
Then Journey got on stage and played for about an hour and 45 minutes. They opened with “Separate Ways” closing with “Lovin, Touchin, Squeezing”. Who needs Steve Perry??? The new singer they have was amazing. We is a short dude from the Philippines. It was just so much fun just watching him run around the stage and jumping off the monitors. He was great. It was funny, cause he is a 36 year old guy going crazy on stage and the rest of the band are guys in their late 50s, maybe early 60s – just standing there. All this hits were included in the set, “Don’t Stop Believing”, “Wheels in the Sky”, “Anyway You Want It”, etc.
What we wanted that night was a kick ass rock show from two STILL awesome bands. Back in the day, the crowd had high hair with tons of Aqua Net….now, they are either bald or gray haired fans.
Also, while I am at it. Get the new Black Crowes “Before the Frost…Until the Freeze”. 20 songs total. It ranges from rock to folk to county and back to rock again. Great acoustic songs too. They did a great performance of the first single “Good Morning Capitan” on Letterman Tuesday night. The whole album was recorded in one take in front of a live audience of about 500 people. It was recorded in a famous barn in Woodstock, New York. Wish I was invited to the recording, but Rich and Chris Robinson’s invitation got lost in the mail. Haha. Enjoy. Go get it.
