I am the proud owner of “With His Hot And blue Guitar” Johnny Cash’s first album. And I have it on vinyl!
Once in a while the performance of a certain song will bring me to tears. During the TV tributes to Luciano Pavarotti after his death, a clip of him singing Pucini’s “Nessun Dorma” had me blubbering as if he had been a favorite uncle. I wasn’t particularly sad for Pavarotti, but it was the first time I had heard the piece and it floored me!
On PBS they have a promo that features images of the galaxy and inspiring quotes flashed onto the screen. Johnny Cash is singing “The Highwayman”. I’m always fine until he gets to the lyric: “Or I may simply be a single drop of rain. But I will remain. And I’ll be back again…” Sung as only he can sing it in that Johnny Cash voice.
This past Sunday I had to tell my wife Nancy that my recent cold was making my eyes suddenly water.
I was crying for him.
