Why did rocknyc dis Jay-Z so much?
Im no hip hop scholah…hollah… (sorry couldnt resist)but I know whats I look for in music in general.
I want to hear the lyrics and if not I want to be able to catch lines that mean something more than fuck me til the morning’ just something catchy.
Well.. ok so as earlier mentioned I love ‘On To The Next One’ and I think I may have blown a speaker in my car cuz of it.
so on this freezing rain yack of a day I hit up Pandora and Jay-Z it.
Up comes “Empire State of Mind” and aside from that chick Alicia Keyes slobbering like a slug its pretty cool. (and if I can take a moment here to laugh at Pandora for being your own personal radio tutor “we will now explore other artists who carry the same characteristics of…” )
“Run This Town” Features Rhianna and Kanye- totally doesn’t suck. Its actually kinda funny, lyrically. But what grabs me in all the Jay-Z I’m now hearing is the very very dynamic drum. Deep booms but not as repetitive as in other ‘hip hop’ songs. This is unique and very distinct. In this particular song its almost a marching band snare. How amazing is that? Its hypnotic but with an underlying tension and I don’t like Rhianna. But she actually fits in this song. She has a haunting sound to her. Like a wounded sort of vulnerability (spare me the jokes). I’m gonna hold off on discussing her for now and leave it as I like this song.
Could it be that I just like ‘The Blueprint’? Well ‘Venus Vs Mars’ is hot. But the ‘Shorty’ bit is sorta funny.
Nice nice nice.
I like Pharrell cuz I love Snoop. So of course I said YAY! when I saw “So Ambitious”.. ladies and gentlemen… we have the winner…great lyrics.
So lets get off Blueprint. Let’s listen to some earlier stuff.. how about Points of Authority/99 Problems…with Linkin Park.Linkin Park?
I’m sorry is there a reason we dis the Z? Cuz he’s kickin some ass in 2004 too.
Iman- why?
Could it be his personality? He’s an arrogant fuck. But if I don’t pay attention to him when the music stops- I think I’m a hardcore fan.

Jay-Z used to be a great mc -maybe the third best ever… but since kingdom come he has chops up the same tired dick waggling rhythms and rhymes he did earlier and much, much better. only somebody from boston could listen to empire without throwing up… today he is the u2 of hip hop… he is hip hop for people who don’t like hip hop, an enervated, arrogant bore…
