Far be it for me to question a song following in his father's footsteps.
Except when it comes to music.
From the Marleys to the Lennons, from the Dylan's to the Sinatras to the Tormes… it is a suckers game.
It's a no winner.
With the exception of Rufus Wainwright, I can't think of anyone who hasn't looked pretty stupid.
James Torme, Mel Torme's son, isn't bad. I am sure he will have a fine career as a cabaret artist filling rooms with well wisher, star gazers and jazz standards lovers.
But, for all his talents, he simply is not his father.
James has released a couple of indie albums and his first major release Love For Sale is out now.
Oh and his mom is actress Janette Scott and HER MOM is THORA HIRD!!! Now Janette was pretty big in her time, but his Grandma Thora Hird was a spectacular actress. From 1960 to 1963 she tore up the British screen and her career went from 1942 to 1998 (with a big gap there somewhere, admittedly)!
Anyway, he isn't BAD by any stretch of the imagination.
