Just another emo Brit boy with a guitar? Perhaps but here’s your flavor of the month Jake Bugg, an odd name for a pop singer with a guitar and brooding eyes. There are people comparing him to Lily Allen…huh? They must still be out of sorts on cleaning fluids post Olympics. He has a very safe, very middle of the road, very generic sound.
This guy is not exactly revolutionary but seems bland enough to make a name for himself here eventually. I predict he jumps on the Ed Sheeran trail and grabs those girls once Ed elevates.
The video? Stereotypical coming of age hate my parents, worlds better off without me, wooo I’m a star recipe. Some rather great lines (and even more awesome title) in the single “Two Fingers”. I generally love these ‘story’ videos, and I would have loved it more if the damn song didn’t keep getting in the way.
Bugg counts Noel Gallagher, Lily Allen, Elton John, Chris Martin, Damon Albarn and Snow Patrol amongst his fans and has supported Michael Kiwanuka, Example and Lana Del Rey. With those kind of friends…
'Jake Bugg', his self titled debut album, will be released 15th October alongside the new single 'Two Fingers'. His album is 14 songs, clocking in at under 40 minutes not sure we will notice, but hey that’s plenty of time.
