Jail Weddings‘ (There's Nothing Worse In The World Than A) Crying Girl’ Reviewed

Think what you want first, but you will not be able to resist very long to this new Jail Weddings’song, it’s so epic, dramatic and certainly over the top that it will transport you in a very good place for 7 minutes, it’s so bombastic and theatrical it could be an Arcade Fire tune sung by Nick-Cave-meets-Ziggy-Stardust, whereas its title is so long it could compete with any Fiona Apple’s song.

‘(There's Nothing Worse In The World Than A) Crying Girl’, by the large Los Angeles ensemble, starts with frontman Gabriel Hart’s magniloquent and powerful baritone over a wobbling organ, hurting, crying, triumphing like a mad man, before the song kick in into Jail Weddings’ usual expansive sound and large orchestration with Jada Wagensomer, Marianne Stewart and Kristina B on backing vocals, Hannah Blumenfeld on violin, Josh Puklavetz on bass, Mike Shelbourn on drums, Marty Sataman on keyboard, and Chris Rager on guitar.

The song will be featured on their new EP, ‘Four Future Standards‘ recorded through the fall and winter of 2011-2012 by Mark Rains (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Waylon Jennings), and soon to be released (May 22) via Neurotic Yell label.

Hart had this to say about the band:

I wanted to start a band that blurred the lines of fantasy and reality, that collectively lived the lyrics, a band that would end up being a lifestyle all its own and turn the lives of the members into a goddamn musical, even if we were the only ones that knew it.’
